He Is Not Broken

Chapter 1

by: Marfabu
He is the universe with galaxies in his eyes and constellations baited on his every breath. Every word he speaks is sandpaper and darkness and he drinks to make himself feel smooth and light.

And he tells me that the darkness in him is too much sometimes and I don't know what to do because the darkness in me consumes me and I don't want him to be that way, too. I learned a long time ago that you can't take the darkness in you away without taking out the stars, too, and I don't want him to learn that the hard way too. You have to make the stars in you shine a little brighter to get the darkness to fade out but he will not hear that because

he is not broken.

In himself he sees desolation and loneliness and I want to kiss it out of him sometimes because broken fragments of the whiskey bottles he drinks himself to an early death with are not what he deserves. In himself he sees agitation and restlessness and stupidity and he fathoms these ideas into black holes that suck away the stars in his eyes and leave him broken. He doesn't deserve it though because

he is not broken.

He is not broken yet, I tell myself. He cannot be broken because he has to be okay. One of us has to be, anyway, and Lord knows that someone isn't me.

"I am not broken,"

I see him chant to himself in the mirror everyday as he tells himself that crying is weakness but he is not weak because he is not broken, and he is not broken because he is not damaged. He is not broken because no one has allowed him to be and I want to scream to him that, "It's okay to be broken," because I learned that the hard way and God damn it I care about it so much it blinds me, but he can' t see because all he sees is the darkness in his soul but

he is not broken.
