Mania Is A Shadow

This poem was inspired by manic-depression/bipolar disorder. I suffer from manic-depression illness and wanted to give a shout out to all who suffer too that they are not alone, children, teens, young adults all alike are not alone. I know spring poetry should be more uplifting, but what is more uplifting than giving at least ONE person hope that they are not alone in the pain and that IT DOES GET BETTER?
Anyway, here is a link to to other poetry that inspires me. http://www.bipolarpoetry.com/

Chapter 1

Mania Is A Shadow

There was once a little girl,
dancing in the rain,
carefree was she,
from any pain.

With a smile so warm,
it could melt glass,
and although well guided,
none would last.

Mother dear was thoughtless,
father dear was cold,
brother dear was gone
and she was alone.

She craved a little sunshine,
and a dainty rose,
in the sidewalk crack,
to befriend her alone.

As days became years,
she befriended the shadows,
that played along the walls,
and kissed gravestones
that lined her mind’s halls.

Than with father dear gone,
and mother dear checked out,
this grown up girl,
let the shadows crawl about.

Inside her head they climbed in,
and drove out the carefree thoughts,
and roses in the sidewalk cracks,
and undid all the pretty knots.

Adventures they took her though,
on high aspirations
and whimsy abundant,
they encountered ungodly creations.

Adventures they took her though,
into the blackness of insanity,
an undying nightmare
of darkened humanity.

She loved the shadows,
that now played her mind
in a manic symphony,
and she thought to be fine.

Time took it’s course,
such as life must,
and the little girl was no more,
but the shadows that had corrupt.

And so it goes…

There was once a little girl,
dancing in the rain,
carefree was she,
from any pain.

With a smile so warm,
it could melt glass,
and although well guided,
none would last.
