Broken Melody ♥ Based on a true story

***Hey guys... is the story good so far? Well... if it is, then I'll keep updating it. Thanks for the support!***
This is an original story written completely from my own experiences. The girl in the story is me, and all the things that happened to her were the things that I went through. For those of you who read my winning poem for the Quibblo Valentines' Day writing contest, this story is the detailed version of the poem. Thank you.

Chapter 1

♥ Prologue ♥

My fingers dance on the piano keys, weaving a soft, fragile melody that rings out like several silver bells into the crisp evening air. The single beam of light that shines through the window reflects the fine layer of dust atop the lid. The melody takes its shape, first forming in different parts, then grouping together to create a beautiful song. Outside, the first stars begin to appear.

I smile to myself, a sad, weak smile that only the broken-hearted can see and truly feel. The song, fragile and thin, sounds like it might blow away in the evening wind, to a faraway place under the stars.

When I play, it sounds amazing. It carries me away, and suddenly all my emotions are pouring out of me, surrounding me, lifting me up to the sky. As a cloud tucks in the moon, I can't hold it back.

Slowly, I close my eyes, and tilt my head back. I begin to sing.

I think about how, it might have been...
We'd spend our days travelling,
It's not that I don't understand you,
It's not that I don't want to be with you...

So, I will head out alone and hope for the best,
And we can hang out heads down,
As we skip the goodbyes...
And you can tell the world what you want them to hear,
I've got nothing left to lose, my dear...

So, I'm up for the little white lies,
But you and I know the reason why...
I'm gone, and you're still there,
I'm gone, and you're still there,
I'm gone, and you're still there...

The ending of the melody fades away into the night air. I smile, and lean back. There are things that you don't want others to find out about, after all. And this is one of them. But sometimes, confiding in somebody else is better than carrying the heavy load on your own shoulders.

But something about this song that nobody else can hear, is that deep down, beyond the melody, there is a story. Snapshots of life, yellowing photographs, that tell my story. Concealed carefully by the notes is a story, one so powerful that it can stir tears. One that you can never understand unless you have been through it yourself. One that once you read, you will never forget.

This is my story, like a broken melody, dancing into the air in the swirling snow and rain. This is my story... a perfectly composed song, dedicated to the broken hearted and the ones with crushes that never materialized.
