The Way You Used to Look at Me

This is based on a true story that I've never told anyone before. Nobody. Ever.

Chapter 1

......

I always loved the way
Your glasses slid down your nose
Your blue eyes peering above
The blush
When I made you laugh
And the joke was just for you

I knew that you cared
About me
(I don't know how that's possible;
I'm despicable)
But I hate to tell you this
It wasn't until after you were gone
that I knew
I cared at all.

You once told me you loved my laugh
I never told you I loved your's too.

And then we come to the time
You know the one
(Because you always knew
You were the smart one)

And I want to tell you this;

I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I broke you heart
I'm sorry you couldn't look at me anymore
I'm sorry that that day ever happened at all

I'm sorry that I treated you
In a way no one deserves to be treated.

And the most heart-wrenching truth of it all
Is that even if I wanted to
I couldn't fix your heart.

The moment when I broke it
Your face
Oh, your face looked like life was over
Your eyes filled up with silent tears
I hated myself
For making them
For sacrificing you
Your sanity
For what?
I lost you.

You must have know
(Because you always knew
You were the smart one)

I wasn't meant for you
You deserve more.

Then you started dating her.
You never liked her, did you?
I could see it in your eyes
(Did I say I loved your eyes?)
That you cared as much about her
As you did science
(Haha, inside joke
You always loved inside jokes)

Why her?
She couldn't mend your heart
Any more than I could
I broke it
I should fix it
But you never let me
And honestly
I understand why

I hated myself for what I did to you
Did you know about my tears behind the scenes?

The most horrible day of my life
(And I've had many horrible days)
Was when I got the letter.

They sent it out to the whole school
They said you 'wouldn't be joining us anymore'
And blanket over the truth
That you would never smile
Or laugh
(Did I say I loved your laugh?)
Or look at me with those perfect blue eyes
Again.

And I couldn't fix that.

Was it because of me?
I never knew.
If you could live another moment
I'd kiss you then.
Like I never did before.

We never dated.
We were just friends.
I knew you wanted more.
But we were young,
Too young.

I didn't know what to do.

Alex-
I'm sorry I broke your heart.
And now
You're just somebody
That I used to
Love.

Gosh, that was hard for me to write. I'm not a natural poet, but I just needed to get that out there.

Our song- I remember it well- was 'Somebody That I Used To Know' by Gotye which can be found here;
