Chapter 2

Matt Sapphire ~ Half blood Prince

I saw Lilith in the distance and gave her a cocky grin. "Hello, little Banshee."

Lilith raised her eyebrows delicately. "Half-Blood."

Those are the nicknames we gave each other when we became best friends. That was a long time ago. A loooong time ago. Before the Academy. And I haven't seen Lilith in such a long time.

"It's so good to see you, Matt!" She ran forward and hugged me. I wrapped my arms around her and smiled. Memories flashed through my mind, but I pushed them away. Lilith was a good banshee now.

"Nice to see you too, Lils." I replied. "A bit early, aren't you?"

"I like to be early for things." She reminded me. I smiled.

"How could I forget."

Lilith slipped her little hand in mine. "Shall we go to our first class?"

"Sure." We walked to our first class together in silence. Perhaps I should take this time to tell you about me.

My name is Matt Sapphire. I'm the result of a faerie prince and a pretty vampire girl breeding. I wasn't supposed to live. Certainly my parents didn't. I'm one in a million to be a half-breed. Technically, I'm an alien. But nobody seems to care.

I'm half Faerie and half Vampire, as you can tell. By Faerie, I mean a human that is unnaturally enhanced and beautiful. By Vampire, I mean the kinds that don't sparkle. My faerie blood protected me from the danger of the sunlight. Still, I prefer darkness to light, like any normal vampire.

No, I don't drink blood. I can. But I don't. But another effect of the vampire blood in me is that I don't eat. Ever. I can drink blood but I can't eat. And my skin is deathly hard. Nobody can hurt me.

The faerie blood gave me a little bit of trouble. See, I've got wings. I usually keep them invisible. But I do have wings and yes, I can fly. I don't like to though. And the wings are made of this gauze-ish material. It's sort of embarrassing. But I suppose it could be worse.

We arrived at the classroom. Here classes have no names. You have no idea what you'll learn in the class that day. It bothers some people. Not me. Apparently faerie or vampire blood comes with super human knowledge. Ha ha.

Lilith sat down on the pavement and looked up at me. "Think we should go in?"

"No." I didn't hesitate in saying that.

"I guess you're right." she agreed.

"We'll wait till the bell rings." I decided.

"Who's that, Matt?" She tugged on my sleeve and pointed to a figure in the distance, coming closer. I squinted, then laughed.

"That's Corvyn."

"Who's that?" she asked.

I hesitated, then said truthfully, "I don't know."
