Return To The Force

I was never good at writing plays. Sure, I tried. A long time ago, I made a story called "My Modern Shakespeare Chaos" and sure enough, it was chaotic. A little too chaotic if you ask me.

Eitherway, I decided to enter this contest and hope for the best. Wish me luck!

Your support is greatly appreciated!

Chapter 1

Act 1, Scene 1

Act 1 Scene 1
When infamous terrorist, Snake Charmer, makes his debut, Terrorist Control Task Force Commander, Wick Salazar, makes the decision to call an early-retired agent back into the field.

Setting: Task Force HQ

(Enter WICK and CRIMSON)

CRIMSON:
Sir, the situation at hand is more precarious than you think --

WICK:
Talk to me.

CRIMSON:
Remember that crime syndicate we busted four years ago? C.O.B.R.A? Well, they're back, and under new management.

(CRIMSON opens file and slips WICK a headshot of SNAKE CHARMER.)

New terrorist on the field, goes by the alias of Snake Charmer.

WICK:
Why do they always have to have such kooky names? What has this Snake Charmer done?

CRIMSON:
So far, his main method of attack is unleashing snakes in public places. Hardly anywhere is safe anymore. Two days ago, he unleashed several poisonous vipers in a public library, resulting in 32 hospitalizations. And yesterday, he let a crate of snakes free in the public zoo.

WICK:
The zoo?

CRIMSON:
The least likely place anyone would expect Snake Charmer to attack. We'd previously expected Snake Charmer to attack in places that send a message to others so he can claim responsibility for his terrorism. Instead, he targeted our weak spot, a place where snakes slithering about could be considered a lack of proper enclosure security.

WICK:
How did we connect the zoo attack back to Snake Charmer?

CRIMSON:
The snakes released were of a different breed than those in the zoo's enclosure. Also, later that night, he televised a country-wide broadcast, saying he will launch another attack in 48 hours if we do not meet his demands.

WICK:
What are his demands?

CRIMSON:
He hasn't made any. He's keeping us on his toes. We're expecting his call any minute now.

WICK:
I hope I'm not late . . .

(WICK and CRIMSON exit to lab. Enter WICK, FRANK and CRIMSON in lab.)

WICK:
What do you have for us, Frank?

FRANK:
Well, (re-adjusts glasses) sadly, the minimal results we have obtained are not very useful. Snake Charmer has cleaned up after himself, he's left virtually no clues or evidence, which is impressive for a first-time terrorist.

WICK:
Do not show admiration of the villain.

FRANK:
Forgive me.

WICK:
So what can we do? Sit around and wait for Snake Charmer to make the first move?

FRANK:
We can try to predict his next move.

(WICK turns to CRIMSON.)

WICK:
Who was the agent who took down C.O.B.R.A four years ago?

(CRIMSON flips through her files.)

CRIMSON:
Agent William Cole, sir.

FRANK:
I remember him.

WICK:
He took C.O.B.R.A down before, he can take them down again. And if I remember correctly, he was quite the smart profiler. We could use his skills to help predict Snake Charmer's next plan of attack.

CRIMSON:
Last I checked, Will was hiding up out near the regions of Mount Everest. He's led a pretty basic life since his early retirement. I hear his wife's one month pregnant.

FRANK:
Oh yeah. Will hook up with that London chick?

WICK:
None of our business.

FRANK:
For something that's none of our business, Crimson's done a lot of research on it.

(CRIMSON slaps FRANK's arm.)

CRIMSON:
It's my job. I can't be second-in-command and not keep a good eye out on research.

WICK:
Get Will on the phone with me.

CRIMSON:
All the way out from Mount Everest?

FRANK:
That's not exactly an easy feat.

(WICK sighs, throwing hands up in air.)

WICK:
Do we have any agents situated near the Everest region?

(CRIMSON flips through her files.)

CRIMSON:
Jack Green's the closest agent on the block. He can get to Will and bring him back in 14 hours or less.

FRANK:
Impressive.

WICK:
Get Jack on the phone. Now.

(CRIMSON reaches into her pocket and withdraws a small iPhone. She calls JACK.)

(On the other end, we hear JACK pick up the phone.)

JACK (OFF):
Hello?

CRIMSON:
Agent Green, this is Agent Crimson of the Task Force. May I confirm with you if you are in the Everest region?

JACK (OFF):
Affirmative.

CRIMSON:
Good. We've got a job for you.

JACK (OFF):
What do you need?

CRIMSON:
I need you to look up an old agent. Name of William Cole, he's hiding out somewhere in the Everest region?

JACK (OFF):
He been compromised?

CRIMSON:
No, no, nothing like that. Just a call back into the field for a special case.

JACK (OFF):
I'm on it. When do you expect him back?

(Enter LAB TECH 1.)

LAB TECH 1:
Sir!

WICK:
What?

LAB TECH 1:
It's Snake Charmer! He's contacted us!

WICK:
Take me there.

(Exit LAB TECH 1 and WICK.)

CRIMSON:
I want you and Agent Cole back at HQ in under 14 hours.

JACK (OFF):
Affirmative. I'll get it done.

(JACK hangs up and FRANK and CRIMSON exit. WICK, LAB TECH 1 and LAB TECH 2 enter HQ room.)

WICK:
Status update?

LAB TECH 2:
Snake Charmer's sent us a message by phone. I'm working on finding his location and analyzing his speech pattern.

(WICK points to LAB TECH 1.)

WICK:
You. Help him.

LAB TECH 1:
On it.

(WICK points to LAB TECH 2.)

WICK:
Play back tape.

LAB TECH 2:
Playing tape.

(On screen, recording plays back.)

SNAKE CHARMER (OFF):
I'm poised to attack as I speak. You think the Force can stop what I have prepared? You haven't seen the last of my snakes yet. It's only a matter of time before it happens. And when it does, you better watch out. You can help prevent this. You can save many more lives. No one's died yet, but you can bet on it that soon, people will die. And unless my demands are met, their blood will be on your hands.

(Recording stops and WICK slams hand onto table.)

WICK:
His location?

LAB TECH 2:
He's off the grid.

LAB TECH 1:
Same here with the speech patterns. He's scrambled his voice, it will take me two to three days to crack it.

WICK:
Well, I'll be damned. Work on cracking it. Do something, damn it!

(Exit WICK in a rush.)

LAB TECH 2:
He's way too high strung.

LAB TECH 1:
With a terrorist over our heads like this, it'd be a surprise if he wasn't.

LAB TECH 2:
This isn't the first terrorist he's faced.

LAB TECH 1:
This guy may not be the first, but he's the strangest for sure. It's only a matter of time when these snakes cause some real hurt. And when that happens, I don't want to be around to see Wick's reaction . . .
