Chapter 1

Clare's POV: The Only Way is Up

We sat in the radio station, giving our first interview ever, and ready to reveal our new single 'The Blame Game'. I looked at Anna, and she gave me a nervous smile.
"And we're back with the new group known as Somewhere Inbetween, which is appropriate because you're not a boy band, and not necessarily a girl band. We have two lads, Luke and Ben, and two ladies, Clare and Anna. This is something new," Andy, the radio host said in his thick British accent.
"Yeah, we're not sure how well we'll be received by the public. We're not One Direction, and we're not Little Mix," Anna said, her Scottish accent filling the brief silence.

"And you're all from different parts of the world, right?"
"Yeah, I'm from London," Luke said.
"I'm from Canada," Ben said.
"I'm from Scotland," Anna said.
"And I'm from Australia," I said lastly. It was true, we were all very different, but we all came together by chance, and here we are. Ready to release our new single.
"Wow, that's incredible. How did all of you meet?" Andy asked.
"At this performing arts school in New York. I'm not sure why all of us traveled to the States, but I can honestly say it was the best decision we all could have made," I said, throwing an arm around Ben.

"Aww! Thanks, I love you my little Aussie!" Ben said, kissing me on the cheek.
I giggled and slapped his arm. "Stop it, mate."
"I agree, I'm glad that you all came together. Now it's time to unveil Somewhere Inbetween's debut single 'The Blame Game', written by Clare Bennett and Luke Harington, from their debut album 'Contagious', out this spring."
And with that, our song started playing. We all stared at each other, smiling like idiots. Hearing my voice singing back to me on live radio just made me infinitely happy. We all started dancing and singing along. And we started hugging each other and high-fiving like lunatics.

When the song ended we all laughing and had a group hug before we put our headphones on again.
"The phone lines are ringing off the hook with praise for the song, people wondering what it was called, when the album comes out, and when tour dates are going to start. It is ridiculous how great that song was and how quickly people are responding to it. Congratulations, we wish you all the luck and happiness in the world," Andy said.
"Thank you," Luke said, shaking his hand.

"Again, that was Somewhere Inbetween with their debut single 'The Blame Game'. And when does that album come out again?"
"The album is 'Contagious', and it comes out May 14th. Buy it! You know you want to!" I shouted happily. And after we all shook hands with Andy, we headed out to the SUV waiting for us. It was on to the next interview and debut of our new single.
"That was unbelievable," Anna said, resting her head on my shoulder.
"Words can't describe how happy I am. I never thought in a million years a song I helped write, and sung would play on the radio," I said.

"Well, this is only the beginning, love," Luke said. "The only direction we'll be going is up."
Anna and I exchanged a look and rolled our eyes. "You're so cheesy Luke. But you do have a point." I said.
I turned on my phone and logged onto Twitter. My eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing. I already had 400,000 followers, which was way more than I had an hour ago. And as I checked my followers, I saw a certain five that stuck out the most.
"Anna, Anna, look!" I shouted.
"Uh oh, the Aussie's getting excited," She said and looked at the followers, and her jaw dropped.

"You've got One Direction following you!" She shouted, taking my phone out of my hands. "Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik. They're all there!" She shrieked.
"Let me see," Ben said, taking the phone from Anna.
"Bloody hell," Luke said.
"Are they following us too?" Ben asked, already starting to check his phone. And indeed they were.
Anna and I started to fan-girl, as we were Directioners, but stopped when Luke and Ben gave us a look.
"Oh my God, Harry just tweeted me!" I said.

Just heard your single and it's amazing. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album, I already pre-ordered 'Contagious'. Hope to meet you all soon, best of luck! .xxx Harry

I pretended to faint on Anna.
"Like I said, the only way is up," Luke repeated.
And I believed him. This was my dream, and it was finally starting to come true. And I wasn't alone, I had my three best friends alongside me. And things could only get better, as far as I'm concerned.
