Chapter 3

Another Weasley, eh?

"The place is packed with Muggles, of course." Mum said loudly as we weaved through the crowds at King's Cross station.

I grinned nervously as Bill helped me push my cart through the masses of Muggles.

"A little nervous?" Charlie raised an eyebrow at me as we all stopped by platforms 9 and 10.

"Shut up, Charlie." I stuck my tongue out at him, making him laugh.

I was nervous, extremely so. But I wasn't about to admit that in front of all of my brothers.

"Mum, can't I go..." Ginny begged for the gazillionth time.

"You're not old enough, Ginny, now be quiet. All right, Percy, you go first." Mum said, motioning for Percy to go.

Percy pushed his cart forward and started running towards the wall between platforms 9 and 10.

Just before he got there, he vanished.

"Now Fred." Mum said, waving him on.

"He's not Fred, I am!" George cried out, acting offended.

Fred shook his head. "Honestly, woman. And you call yourself our mother."

"Oh, sorry, George." Mum apologized as Bill, Charlie, Ron and I tried not to laugh.

"I'm only joking, I am Fred!" Fred laughed before running at the wall with George right behind him.

"Oh, those two." Mum threw her hands in the air, scowling at the wall.

"Excuse me?"

We all turned to see a boy with jet-black hair and green eyes standing there with an owl on his cart.

Why does he look so familiar?

"Yes, dear?" Mum said kindly.

"How do you- I mean...er..." The boy started turning red as I looked at him.

"Need help getting on the platform?" I asked, grinning.

The boy nodded slightly, still red in the face.

"All you have to do is walk straight at the barrier between platforms 9 and 10. Don't stop and don't be scared you'll crash into it, that's very important. Best to go at a bit of a run, if you're nervous." Mum told him.

"Also shut your eyes or else you may get even more nervous." I advised as the boy nodded.

"Thanks." he muttered, pushing his cart into position.

"Good luck." Ginny piped up, still holding Mum's hand.

I shared a look with Ron, raising my eyebrows. Those were the first words she'd said all morning.

The boy nodded again and then charged the wall at full speed.

He disappeared and then Mum turned to Bill and I. "Go on, you two!"

"Ready?" Bill asked, smiling as he put his hands over mine on the handle of the cart.

"Let's go!" I crowed before we both ran towards the wall.

Ever since I was little and Bill and Charlie were going to school, I've always entered Platform 9 3/4 with my eyes shut tight. It's almost like making a wish, actually.

So I squeezed my eyes shut until I heard sounds of laughter and shouting.

I looked up and saw it then over everyone's heads and through a cloud of steam- the Hogwarts Express.

"Am I really going?" I asked Bill excitedly as we walked through the crowd towards towards the big train.

"You sure are, Reenie." Bill smiled as Charlie and Ron caught up with us.

"All right, trunks on the train!" Charlie declared, taking one end of Ron's trunk as Ron grabbed the other side.

Bill and I did the same with my trunk and soon both our trunks were sitting with all of the other students' trunks near the front of the train.

Where is everybody?" Mum called out, looking around us impatiently. "The train's about to leave. Fred! George!"

"Right here, Mum." They chimed, appearing next to my elbow.

Percy stormed up to us then, fuming. "Fred and George! You two had better give me back my badge this instant!"

"Why do you always assume it was us?" Fred asked, holding his hands out in defense.

"Yeah, you know what they say about people who assume." George pointed out.

Percy looked like he was about to hit something.

Meanwhile, Mum was watching me. "All right, Reenie, give your brother his badge back."

I blinked. "How do you always know when it's me?"

"Because I'm your mother. I know these things. Now give it back to him." Mum said sternly as Bill and Charlie laughed.

I sighed and pulled Percy's prefect badge out of my pocket handing it back to him.

"So much for polishing it last night." Percy said disdainfully.

"Oh, you were asking for it this morning." I said testily, crossing my arms over my chest.

"Now, now, that's enough, you two." Mum warned, giving Percy a kiss on the cheek before he could answer.

Percy harrumphed before turning and walking towards the front of the train.

"You two have been a bad influence on her." Mum scolded Fred and George, giving them kisses as well.

"She is turning out to be a lot like us, isn't she?" George grinned, ruffling my hair. I elbowed him in the side, dodging away from him.

Then the whistle on the train blew and we hurried to say our good-byes.

Bill gave me a hug. "Send me an owl, Reenie."

"Will do, Bill." I promised. "Bye, Charlie!"

Charlie grinned and hugged me.

"Bye Mum!" I said, giving her a hug and kissing her on the cheek as Fred, George and Ron climbed onto the train.

"Good-bye, Reenie. Do good in school. And don't forget to write." Mum squeezed me tightly before letting me hop onto the train after my brothers.

Ginny started crying as the four of us leaned out of the windows.

"Don't cry, Ginny, we'll send you loads of owls." Fred called out.

"We'll send you a Hogwarts toilet seat!" George grinned and I rolled my eyes.

"George!" Mum yelled as Ginny giggled.

The things my brothers come up with. And yell in public.

"Don't listen to him, Ginny. But I'll send you something, okay? Promise!" I shouted as the train whistle blew again.

Then the train started moving slowly and Ginny ran after us as we all waved furiously at her, Mum, Bill, and Charlie.

Soon the train pulled out of the station and we were finally on our way to Hogwarts.

As you can see, I'm not excited at all.

"All right, you two run along and find a compartment, Fred and I are going to find Lee Jordan, apparently he's got a tarantula." George said, rubbing his hands together in anticipation.

"Bye!" I yelled, grabbing Ron's hand and pulling him down the corridor.

We searched up and down the train, but nearly every compartment was full.

"What about this one?" I asked, peering through the window. "It's the boy from earlier- he's the only one in here!"

I pushed open the compartment door before Ron could answer. "Excuse me, but do you mind if we sit in here? Everywhere else is full."

The boy shook his head and I went and sat across from him, Ron sitting next to me after shutting the door.

"I'm Reenie, by the way. Reenie Weasley. And this is my brother, Ron." I poked Ron in the shoulder, making him roll his eyes.

"I'm Harry Potter."

My jaw dropped. "Wait, the Harry Potter?"

Bloody hell. The black hair...the green eyes...and-

"Have you got the...the...you know- the scar?" Ron whispered the last bit, motioning to Harry's forehead.

"Oh, yeah." Harry said, pulling up his hair to show a jagged lightning-shaped scar etched into his forehead.

"Wicked." Ron and I chorused, grinning.

Harry raised his eyebrows, smiling as well. "Twins?"

"Yep!" Ron asserted gleefully. "And I'm older, by the way."

"By half a minute- you know that that doesn't count!" I complained, shaking my head as Harry and Ron laughed.

"Wait here." Professor McGonagall said before turning and walking into the hall.

I grinned at Ron and Harry. "You ready-"

"So it's true, is it?"

The three of us turned to see a boy with white-blonde hair and icy grey eyes standing there with two goons on either side of him and a sneer on his face.

"Everyone's been talking about it. How Harry Potter has finally come to Hogwarts." The boy drawled as he looked at Harry.

All of the other first years were silent as they watched.

"This is Crabbe and Goyle." The boy motioned to the two boys, who looked completely witless. "And I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy."

I snorted and Ron face-palmed himself as Malfoy turned on me.

"Think my name's funny, do you? No need to ask who you are. Hand-me-down robes, red hair. You must be a Weasley." Malfoy sneered.

I took a step towards him so that we were nose to nose. "I don't care who you are, Malfoy, you say something like that again and I'll punch your bloody face in. Got it?"

Malfoy rolled his eyes and looked over my shoulder at Harry. "You'll soon find that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. You don't want to go making firiends with the wrong sort. I can help you there."

Malfoy shoved me out of the way to hold out a hand to Harry.

I stumbled backwards a step or two and was about to storm towards Malfoy, but Ron and Hermione Granger grabbed me by the arms, holding me back.

"Reenie, stop!" Ron hissed in my ear.

I continued to struggle, hating Malfoy with every fiber of my being.

The prat- he can't- he's not all high and mighty. My thoughts were all angry and jumbled up in my brain.

Harry took one look at me, seeing me look angry and upset, and turned back to Malfoy. "I think I can figure the right sort out for myself, thanks."

Malfoy glared at him murderously, opening his mouth to say something.

Suddenly, Professor McGonagall appeared behind Harry. "Form a line. And follow me."

Ron and Hermione let me go silently, Ron giving me a wary look. Still fuming, I got in line between the two of them, watching Draco push and shove his way to the front.

That bloody git. School hasn't even started and I already hate him.

We all walked into the Great Hall, and I nearly gasped.

The hall was enormous, with a very high ceiling that resembled the night sky, stars twinkling down at us.

"It's enchanted." Hermione whispered as we walked to the front, by what I assumed was the teachers' table. "I read about it in Hogwarts: A History."

There were four tables filled with students watching us. Me and the other first years crowded around a stool with an ancient-looking raggedy old hat set on top of it.

For a second, we all just stood there.

What are we supposed to do?

Then I saw the hat twitch.

A rip near the brim of the hat opened wide like someone would open their mouth. Then it started to...sing?

Oh you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.

You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.

There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;

You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you've a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;

Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.

So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!

Everyone in the hall clapped uproariously and the hat bowed before coming still.

Ron whispered something to Harry and Hermione glared at them to be quiet.

Professor McGonagall stepped forward with a long piece of parchment. "When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted. Abbot, Hannah!"

A blonde girl with pigtails tripped up to the stool, pulling the hat down over her eyes.

There was a brief pause as we all waited with bated breath. Then-

"HUFFLEPUFF!" The hat proclaimed.

One of the tables erupted into applause and cheers as Hannah Abbot walked over to join them.

The sorting passed quickly for me, I only noticed random people's- Finnigan in Gryffindor, Granger in Gryffindor, Longbottom in Gryffindor, Malfoy in Slytherin, Potter in Gryffindor, Thomas in Gryffindor.

"Weasley, Reenie!"

I was jolted out of my reverie when Ron shoved me in the back lightly.

I stepped up and sat on the stool and McGonagall dropped the hat onto my head, the brim going down past my eyes as well.

A little voice started muttering inside my head. "Another Weasley, eh? I know just- but wait...there's something different about you...yes, well...hmm..."

Hurry up, blimey. I thought to myself impatiently, tapping my fingers on the seat of the stool.

"Oh-ho, a Weasley with a temper!" The voice growled. "That settles it then. Better be- SLYTHERIN!"

My jaw dropped even as the hat was lifted from my head. No!

I tried to meet Ron's eyes, Percy's, any of my brothers' eyes, but they all avoided looking directly at me.

Nobody clapped for me as I got down from the stool and plodded towards the Slytherin table with a heavy heart.

Dad was wrong. I realized as I sat down in the farthest seat from my new house members.

Maybe Ron will-

Nope. I'm by myself.

In Slytherin. With Malfoy.

The horror.
