Chapter 2

Dad, what if...?

"I still have to pack my new robes and then my prefect ba-"

"Give it a rest will ya, Percy?" Bill said tiredly, sitting next to me on the floor.

Percy sniffed. "Fine then."

He turned on his heel and left the living room, passing Charlie, who was coming in, as he did.

Percy hasn't stopped talking since he got his prefect badge with his letter from school a few weeks ago. It's been really annoying for everyone.

"Thank you, Bill." George said, grinning as Fred rolled his eyes at the ceiling.

"We are forever in your debt." I said formally, trying to keep my face straight, even as Ginny started giggling from her seat on the couch.

"We certainly aren't!" Fred and George chorused.

"I'm pretty sure you are." Billy grinned as I stretched out on my stomach, pulling the wizard's chess over between us.

"Are you two packed?" Mum came into the living room, sitting on the worn couch between Charlie, Ron, and Ginny. She was eyeing Fred and George, not Ron and me.

Oh, did I forget to mention that Ron is my twin brother?

"Yes, Mum, everything's packed." Fred sighed as he and George shook their heads at Mum's nagging.

"All right, your move Reenie." Bill said quietly.

I looked down at the chessboard for a second. "Come on then, move up, pawn."

One of my pawns moved forward two spaces.

Two seconds later Bill's knight had crushed my pawn.

"Aw, of all the-"

"I'm home!" A sudden yell from the hallway cut me off just in time.

It's amazing how he always seems to know when to shut me up.

Bill raised his eyebrows at me, grinning as I clapped a hand to my mouth and started laughing.

"Well, Ron, Reenie? Are you two excited to go to Hogwarts?" Dad asked, coming into the living room and taking a seat in his chair.

Ron nodded as I continued to grin.

"Of course they're excited, Arthur." Mum said, patting Ron's head fondly. "I still remember when-"

Charlie groaned, letting his head fall back against the couch. "Bill, aren't you as tired of this speech as I am? You should be more tired of it since you've heard it for me, Percy, Fred and George, and now Ron and Reenie."

Dad, Bill, Fred, George, Ron and I burst out laughing as Mum shoved Charlie lightly, smiling.

We all calmed down after a bit, and I egged my bishop on as it pummeled Bill's knight with relish.

"Mum, can't I-"

"No, Ginny, dear." Mum said firmly, stopping that conversation in its tracks, the same one Ginny's been trying to have since Ron and I got our letters.

I felt a little sorry for her, seeing as how she'd be the only one here with Mum and Dad for the school year, but I knew she'd be coming to Hogwarts next year.

Then a thought that had been bothering me for a while popped out of my mouth.

"Hey Dad? What if I got put into Slytherin house?"

Everyone in the room started laughing like I'd made a joke. Even Ron was laughing, which stung a little bit.

He'd asked me the same question last week, the little prat. I thought sourly.

"You'll be disowned for sure!" Charlie chortled.

"Do you want to be in Slytherin or something?" Bill asked, grinning slightly.

I frowned. "No. I don't. I just asked a simple question is all."

Dad smiled down at me, his eyes twinkling. "Reenie, all of us have been in Gryffindor. I don't think there has ever been a Weasley not in Gryffindor."

"That's not technically true, Arthur. Didn't you have a great-uncle or someone who was in Hufflepuff?" Mum pointed out.

"There. You see, Reenie? You have more of a chance of getting into Hufflepuff than you do of getting into Slytherin." Dad said as Fred, George, Ginny, Charlie, Bill, and Ron continued to laugh.

I shrugged. "Thanks, Dad."

Maybe they're right, I thought as I shouted at my rook to beat up Bill's bishop. I don't have to worry about being in Slytherin at all.

I yawned and rolled over.

"Reenie get up!"

I shoved my head under the covers, curling into a ball.

"Reenie Skye Weasley, you had better get up this instant before I tell Mum!"

I bolted upright in my bed, nearly smacking Percy's glasses off as I did. Oops.

"All right, Perce. I'm up. Now get out while I change." I grumbled, rubbing my eyes and yawning again.

Percy sniffed. "Don't make us be late again. I have to be on time so as to get to the prefect's-"

"Get out, Percy!" I yelled, throwing my pillow at his face.

His ears and neck turning red, Percy turned and left the attic room I shared with Ron, grumbling under his breath as he did so.

I looked over at Ron's bed, which was empty, but also a mess, and sighed.

I know I'm every bit of a slob as he is, but can't he at least make his bed?

I shook my head at our Chudely-Cannon-poster-covered ceiling before getting out of bed to get dressed.

Today I was going to Hogwarts.

Mum and Dad always talk about how they met on the first day, seeing each other for the first time, and knowing that they were meant for each other.

And despite my more tomboy-ish side, despite the fact that I was only 11, I couldn't help but wonder if today was the day I'd meet the perfect guy for me.
