Theme Song: The National - Exile Vilify

Chapter 1

The Last One

Sadie Ebon's P.O.V.

"Eb, don't walk away from me." Bryce put his hand on my shoulder. Instead of shrugging it off of me, I let him rest his hand there.

"Bryce." I sighed. His arms slid around me. Him trying stopping me turned into him trying hugging me. I started to cry.

"Don't cry, Eb." He said. He always knew when I was crying because when I cried my body trembled.

"But Bryce..." I said, leaning against him. He rested his chin on my head.

"Yes, Eb?" He murmured softly.

"But Bryce, I love you. I love your laugh, the way you hold me, the way you look at me, the way you can still call me your friend after all the bad things I've done, the way, I love you for being stupid, I love how you cover nose instead of your mouth with the back of your hand when you're laughing, I love how you always put your chin on the top of my head when you hug me, I love how you used to always run up to me and pick me up and spin me around, I love everything you do, everything you say." I said, all in one breath.

I turned around and looked him straight in the eye. Mine were confused. His were mixed emotions.

Suddenly he bent down and kissed me on the lips. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist.

"I love you too." He whispered after our lips parted.

"Bryce and Sadie, Sadie and Bryce." Bryce murmured in my ear. I smiled. I hated my first name, so everyone called me by my last name, Ebon.

"Hey look, you didn't flinch at your first name." Bryce said, and kissed my nose. After our first kiss together, we immediately went on a date. Now we were on a bench, my back leaning against his chest. My hands were resting on my stomach, and his hands were resting on my hands.

"Bryce, why me again?" I said, closing my eyes. He sighed inwardly.

"Sadie you're beautiful. You're perfect, you're not tainted, you're pure. You're the white rose that wasn't painted red." He said. I smiled. Alice in Wonderland reference.

A few minutes passed and then we both got up and continued walking around the park. Eventually we laid down on the grass, watching the sunset.

"Everything looks so different." I said. He chuckled.

"No, just more clear." He whispered. I smiled and rest my head on his stomach.

I sat up straight, shivering. My blankets were scattered across the room. It's below the average winter weather in New Jersey. I was in a gray tank top and tiny basket ball shorts. Never questioned my decision. I got up from my bed and looked out the window, showing the slightest signs of daylight. It was 5:30 am. I picked up one of my blankets and draped it over my shoulders, walking slowly into the bathroom.

I hopped into the shower, letting the burning hot water rush down. A few seconds after, I let the water cool down a bit to the point it wouldn't burn my skin off. I sighed comfortably. Before my brother hit the door with his fist.

"HURRY UP, SADIE." He screamed loud enough for me to hear. I made sure to take my precious time. I remember leaving the bathroom with steam pouring out.

"Holy crap, Sadie, you're going to raise our water bill." Jonah murmured, and headed into the bathroom. I walked into my bedroom and slammed the door shut, locking it.

I let my towel drop to the floor before walking over to my closet. I picked a big gray long-sleeved sweater that was cut up from the left shoulder blade all the way to the right. I wore a blank tank top underneath, and black skinny jeans. I put my hair up into a messy bun, grabbed my messenger bag, stuffed my homework inside, and grabbed a random book from one of the several bookshelves I owned.

I came out of my room about the same time Jonah came out of the shower, fully clothed.

"Thank god you change in your room, otherwise I'd be tapping my foot against the floor angrily for another twenty minutes." He growled at me, before slipping into the cavern of his room. I walked down the stairs carefully, and into the kitchen. It smelled like coffee. There was two notes set on the counter, and two frappuccinos from Starbucks.

Sadie, Jonah,

I'm going to work. Here's breakfast.

Love, Mom

I picked up the smaller frappe, and walked over to the door. I set everything down and put on my gray high tops.

"Why are you leaving so early?" Jonah said, coming down fully clothed and a head of wet hair. He was rubbing it with a towel.

"I'm going to the cemetery." I said, quietly.

"Dead boyfriend, right." He said, giving me an annoyed look. He walked to the couch and turned the T.V. on.

"Bye, Jonah." I said, opening the door to the cold morning. He gave me a slight hand wave before I walked out the door. I closed the door behind me, letting the slight bit of warm air leave me stranded in the beginning of winter weather.

"HOLY C---" Someone screamed from behind me. I turned around sharply to see it was only one of my classmates. I gave them a harsh hurtful glare before they ran in the opposite direction. No one would talk to me anymore.

I was finally in front of the cemetery gates, and pushed them open slightly. The gate creaked. I walked inside, kicking a pile of snow as I went. I walked past many graves until I recognized one of them.

Bryce Wells

I sat down on the cold snowy ground, leaning against his gravestone for a good twenty minutes. Eventually my body started numbing down so I got up, wiped the snow off of me, and kissed the gravestone before walking away. Now it was off to school for me.

Matteo Daniels' P.O.V.

"Hey, are you Matteo Daniels?" I looked to see an old friend with a group of girls. I chuckled. Nice going, Caden I thought to myself.

"Hey Cade, haven't seen you since last year." I said, walking over to him.

"Why didn't tell me you were moving to New Jersey?" He asked. I shrugged.

"Staying in Florida was the plan, but Ma just wanted a change of scenery and suggested New Jersey." I said casually.

"That's cool. This is my girlfriend Haley. Haley, say hi to Matteo." A blonde chick waved at me. I returned with a smile.

"Alright, welcome to the school. What's you're schedule?" He asked me, pulling the crumpled piece of paper from my hand.

"Uhhh don't remember." I said.

"Hey we've got 3rd, 6th, and 7th period together." Caden said, giving me back my paper.

"That's nice dude, hey where's you're brother?" I asked, curious to where he was. I was more closer to his brother Chase.

"Oh, the dork's outside." Caden said, stiffly.

"A'ight, thanks." I said, and headed outside. I unraveled my paper to look more closely to my schedule, until I bumped into someone.

"Hey, I'm sorry---" I looked down to a girl with dyed hair. She was glaring at me.

"Hey, I said I'm sorry." I said a little more harshly.

"Are you actually speaking to me?" She asked, in a harsh but surprised tone.

"Well--- yeah, obviously." I said, a bit confused.

"Wonderful. Stop it. Go away." She said calmly, crossing her arms.

"What--- why would I do that, why should I do that, you don't own me, who do you think you are?" On that note Chase appeared out of nowhere.

"OH HEY MATTEO WONDERFUL SEEING YOU HERE, LET'S GO SOMEWHERE ELSE NOW." He grabbed my arm and started to walk away before pausing and turning around. I looked with him to see the girl lowering her crossed arms and staring expectantly to Chase.

"Oh, I uh, I'm sorry Ebon, he's new here, he doesn't..." Chase's words drifted off before he gripped onto me tightly, running to the other side of campus.

"What the hell was that Chase? Who's she? Why the hell are you all scared of her? Why was everyone staring at me? Why was she shocked someone spoke to her?" I asked, thoroughly confused.

"Because." Chase said, out of breath, "It's rumored she killed her boyfriend."

Sadie Ebon's P.O.V.

I walked to homeroom, grumpily. New students should watch where they're going I murmured to myself. I always hated encountering one. Always so cheerful and happy and confused and then they're more scared of me than anyone else is.

"Good morning." Mr. McKanin murmured as I walked into the room. I nodded slightly and sat down by the back. I ignored the entire speech he gave about the school like he did everyday. Eventually the bell rung and I picked up my bag again and walked over to my locker. As soon as I closed my locker the new kid slammed his body against the locker in front of me and looked at me with a smug grin. I pulled on a poker face.

"Yes?" I asked, crossing my arms again.

"I'm told you're a dangerous girl." He said, with a cocky tone.

"One shouldn't always believe rumors." I said, in a bored tone.

"Oh but you and I both know you're a naughty one." He said, coming closer to me.

"Then why aren't you cowering in fear?" I growled. He smirked even more.

"Because I'm more stubborn than I am fearful."

He said, and slid his index finger down my nose before taking off with that kid Chase. Chase kept turning his head back and forwards, staring at what I was doing.

For the first time in about two years, I actually smiled.
