~Chapter 1~
Who’s that?
~Shasta P.O.V~

Hello there, my name is Shasta Slater, I live in L.A., and people always tell me I look like Angel Saffire. Before I go on, I must tell you that Angel Saffire is the biggest brat you will ever see in you entire life. Unfortunately, I got caught in a big mess involving her. It all started one day when I was at the mall with a close friend of mine, Lucy Julian.

“How bout this one Shas?” my best friend Lucy asked me, coming out of the dressing room beside me, with a cute sparkly pink, low cut dress on. We always came to the mall to try on dresses, every weekend. “That ones really cute.” I answered as she spun in a circle. She grinned at me, “Now if only a cute guy would think so.” I laughed, Lucy was always on the lookout for cute guys. I mean always. She would point out a few to me and I would laugh because I doubt any guy would go out with me. I had brown hair with lighter highlights, tan skin, and almost black eyes. Guys would look into my eyes and look like they’d been stuck in a black hole.

“Yeah, what do you think bout this one?” I asked her, looking at my dress in the mirror. It was black with neon green splattered on it, and a neon pink strap. I liked it, and I hoped Lucy did too. Her eyes lit up, “That one is soo hot!” I just smiled and shook my head. A little backround of my family, I had no family. That cared bout me at least. I lived in a crappy foster home for the past 12 years of my life, I was 16 now. I was just another older kid that would probably never get adopted, which I didn’t have a problem with. I wasn’t even sure why Lucy wanted to be my friend, until I actually got to know her. Her family was rich and she was the middle child, and her parents practically ignored her. We’ve been friends ever since.

“Lets go buy these and go eat.”

I nodded, “Okay.” Lucy was paying for my dress since it was my b-day. Yes it was my birthday, June 25, but I didn’t like to make a big deal outa it, so Lucy just always took me shopping and bought me anything she thought was cute. I didn’t like her paying for all of it, but she said that that’s the only thing that makes her parents notice her, is if she uses the money they make. We got our close on, and went to check out. That’s when it happened. We were walking outa the store, and some dude in a suit bumped into me. “Watch where your going!” Lucy yelled at him, and helped me up. The man turned around and looked at me weirdly.

“What are you doing Angel? We have to get to the airport pronto!” he yelled at me, then grabbed my arm and started dragging me away. What does he think he’s doing? Lucy had a confused look on her face as she sprinted after us. I shoved his arm away, “What are doing mister?” I asked glaring at him. He turned on me, “What do you m-“ he stopped and looked me over. His face got confused as Lucy caught up to us. “Your not Angel are you?” he asked me, backing up a little to look at me. Lucy spoke up, “No she’s not.” He looked at her, then looked back at me.

“Im sorry I didn’t mean to drag you like that, its just… you look exactly like my client Angel-“ I finished for him. “Saffire yeah, I get that a lot.” I didn’t like It when people compared me to Angel. I hated her. His eyes got wide as he looked over my shoulder. “Angel? What are you doing?” he said angrily, going between us to head towards the girl sitting on the bench by the time square clock. The girl I’m guessing as Angel, glared at him, “I don’t wanna go to the interview. The lady bugs me.” She spit out, crossing her arms. Me and Lucy were looking at both of them, confused. We looked at each other, “What are we supposed to do?” Lucy asked me, and I shrugged. “I don’t know…” I trailed off when the man looked at me. He came over and drug Angel over with him. “Please forgive me for not introducing myself, I am Walter Mooning, Angel Saffire’s manager. “ he said with a smile and sticking out his hand to me. I shook it, “I’m Shasta Slater and this is my friend Lucy.” I said, motioning to Lucy who also shook his chubby hand. Angel cleared her throat, “And of course, I’m Angel Saffire, the worlds greatest singer ever.” She said holding out her hand. I laughed, “Don’t you mean the world’s greatest brat ever?” I said, and high fived Lucy, who was also laughing. Angel scowled, “Walter, we’re leaving to somewhere where people appreciate my talents.” And tried to turn away but her manager grabbed her arm. His eyes lit up as he looked at me.

“Are you a good actor –Shasta was it?” he asked me, I nodded slowly, wondering where he was going with this. “Yeah…” I said, looking at Lucy and she was staring Angel down. He looked excited now, “I have a proposition for you. “ Walter said mysteriously. Angel looked at him , just as confused as we were. I really didn’t like where he was going with this. “What is it?” I asked, really curious now. Angel nodded, “Yeah Walter, what is it?” she repeated. That’s what she was good at, coping people. Her only songs were ones she remade, and they sounded terrible. Walter grinned at us, “This is soo going to work.” Jeez just say it already!

“I want you to take Angel’s place.”

Did he just say what I think he said? Take her place? My eyes went wide as I looked at Lucy who looked like she was gunna explode with excitement. Why was she excited? Angel’s eyes were practicly popping outa her head, and at the same time we said, “What?” we looked at each other not believing what her manager had just said. “I need you to take Angel’s place for 5 months. Angel hasn’t been cooperating lately and her career is going down the toilet because of her attitude. You could play the part, get her back on top, and then Angel can take over again.” He said as if he knew it would work. I shook my head, “No way dude.” I said, still shaking my head. I knew I shouldn’t have got up this morning. His face fell, and so did Lucy’s, “Give us a minute.” Lucy said, and took me by the arm, and lead me a couple of feet away. “Of course.” Walter said.

She looked at me like I was crazy, “What do you think your doing? This could be the opportunity of a lifetime for you, and your going to pass it up?” she said to me, disbelief in her eyes. “What do you want me to do Luc? I cant just leave for 5 months.” I thought for a second, I probably could, actually. Like the foster system would notice. I sighed, “You really want me to do it?” I asked, looking at her dead serious. She looked me in the eyes, and put her hands on my shoulders. “Yes, I really want you to do it.” I knew she wanted me to, I could see it in her eyes. I sighed, “Let me ask him something first.” I said and she nodded excitedly.

I went over to Walter and Angel, and Walter looked at me hopefully, “Will you do it?” he asked. I was screaming at my head not to but I did. “Yes.” He started smiling at me, “Yes!! This will put you back on-“ I cut him off. Lucy had come up beside me. “What do I get in return?” I asked, I wasn’t gunna just do it for free. Walter thought for a second, “How does $500,000 sound?” he asked me dead serious. i swear I popped a vain in my head. “500,000 dollars?!” i asked, not believing it. “Fine $600,000.” He said, getting out his checkbook. Wait what? “No I wasn’t asking for more, I just couldn’t belive you would give me that much.” I said, still surprised at the amount. He blushed little, “Oh I see, my bad, so $500,000 It is then?” I looked at Lucy and she nodded madly, “Yeah, that’ll work.”

“Your such a lifesaver you know that? I’m glad your doing this.” Angel spoke up, smiling evily at me for some reason. “That way you can do all the work and I can do nothing for 5 whole months!” she said excitedly. I frowned, “Whats the fun in doing nothing?” I asked, “I couldn’t stand doing nothing for 5 months.” She just laughed at me, “Have fun Walter, she clearly doesn’t know show biz.” I glared at her, and Walter handed me the check. Luckily Lucy read it, “Hey wait a minute, this only says $250,000. You said 500,000.” She argued, looking at Walter. “I will give the rest to her after 5 months,” he said, “It wouldn’t be fair if I just gave her $500,000 and she took off, noe would it?” he said, looking at us as if saying ‘don’t you dare run’. I nodded, “Fair enough.” He smiled, “Okay so I need you to go pack, and get on the plane to San Francisco at 5 in the morning. I already have your ticket and I’ll have a driver pick you up, and then we will start training you.” Wait, I looked at Lucy. I couldn’t do this without her. “Wait, sir,” I started, he turned to look at me, “I was wondering if Lucy could come. I cant do this without her, and you wouldn’t want someone running around knowing that Angel isn’t the real Angel.” I threatened, hoping inside he would let her go. He thought for a second then looked at Lucy, who I knew was hoping just as much as I was. “Yes, that’s true… we’ll just say that shes your cousin or something.” Lucy hugged me and I smiled, “Thanks Walter.” I liked this guy already, and I was starting to plan what to tell the foster home. Angel looked angry, which I don’t know why.

“Well then, Angel, I guess we will see you tomorrow! I’ll need to get your phone number of course.” I took out my phone, and we gave each other our numbers. Lucy looked like she was gunna explode with excitement. “Don’t explode Lucy.” I said smiling at her. She just grinned at me, “This is gunna be great.” She said to me, then looked at Walter, “Thank you soo much dude.” She said, and went up and hugged him. Walter looked surprised at first and awkwardly put his arms around her. I chuckled, that was one of the reasons I loved Lucy. She was very loving and forgiving. She let go and Walter looked at the clock. “Well we better get going. I will see you at 4:30 tomorrow morning, I’ll need you to text me your address tonight.” I nodded, “See you.” I said as they walked away.

I turned to Lucy, “What did I just get myself into?” I asked her, trying to understand what I just did. Lucy grinned at me, “You better go quit your job, and start packing!” was all she said, and she hugged me tightly. I smiled, but I was thinking hard.

What did I just agree to?
