Chapter 1

At What I So Longingly Desired

I blew out a mouthful of hot air, the air quickly transforming into fog.

It was the day after Christmas, December 26th. It was snowing fiercely outside, the heavy snowflakes shooting through the sharp air. I was outside, sitting on the edge of the sidewalk in front of a restaurant I'd just eaten at.

My name is Araceli, and I'm 19 years old. I'm in college. I was in love with this boy, his name was Jonas. He had blonde hair and blue eyes. He was devastatingly handsome, but that's just my opinion.
If you're wondering what I'm doing on the sidewalk in the snow, I'll tell you. I saw a homeless man on the streets, and he started to scream at me, "Take this! Take it! Do it! Take it!" more times than I could count. So, since he wouldn't stop, and I didn't know what to do, I went over to him.

"Take this," he had whispered, his hot breath invading my ear. "Take this, and drink all of it." He then handed me a vial of what looked like purple soda, but I knew it wasn't because the bubbles were going down instead of up.

So, here I was, the vial in my hand, out on the sidewalk.

I held up the container of purple liquid close to my face. I also noticed that the bubbles were slightly bigger, and each of them showed my reflection. My scared, red-faced reflection.

I blew out another mouthful of air, but it turned to fog quickly. I stared at the vial of soda-looking liquid.

I sighed a sigh of defeat. I was going to drink the potion, or whatever it was.

The potion was supposed to send me back in time, back in time a year. I have no clue why that homeless guy wanted me to take it, so I was a little wary of drinking it.

It was a little creepy, because I DID want to redo that year, because if I went back in time, I could get another chance at what I so longingly desired.

I decided to drink it.

I raised the vial to my lips, and took a long drink until I'd drained the glass.
