The Hunger Games After The Failed Attempt At Rebellion By Katniss Everdeen

This is the Hunger Games after the 75th Hunger Games, also known as the 76th Hunger Games. Katniss failed at her attempt in starting a rebellion, so we still have the annual Hunger Games. sigh I knew it wouldn't last. I don't know why the Districts rebelled. Again. And again they failed. May the odds be ever in my favor.

Chapter 1

Feelings

"Wake up, Layla!" a girl's voice says from a distance. I make a groan, but it sounds more like an elephant dying than a groan.
"It's the Reaping! Don't you want to be on time?" I manage to open an eye, but only halfway. There's a face in front of me. She has light brown hair with the prettiest ocean blue eyes ever. My little sister. Kaya.
I groggily sit up in bed. "Okay, I'm up. Can you go now?" I ask, irritated.
Kaya sighs. "Fine." Then she runs away, probably to her room.
I stand up and walk to the bathroom. It's decorated with pink, blue, and white seashells. There are pearls that have the shiniest gleam. Then there's our District symbol, the fish. I press my hand and feel the rough surface. District 4. The fishing industry. Home, sweet home.
I wash my face with ice cold water to wake the up a bit and get ready. I walk to my closet, right next door, and pull out a pretty sea green dress with small shells around the waist. I slip it on and look at the mirror, shells around the edges and sides.
I look nice, I guess.
I look for the matching shoes for this. I look around my room, searching, and searching, searching.
After a few minutes, I decide to give up and look for other shoes when I trip on something.
I land on the wooden floor with a hard Smack! I groan. I get up from the floor and sit on my bed. I look down to see my shoes. I stare at them in disbelief. It's been there the whole time?! Wow, I was just searching the other half of the room. Sometimes I can be so unbelievably stupid. Like now.
I put them on, making sure they feel comfortable to walk in. I stand up and walk around my room so my shoes can get used to that feeling. I bought the shoes just a few days ago, anyway.
I walk to the mirror and put on some earrings, the same ones I wear every year. Pink pearls, as round as a ball. I don't see any reason to buy new earrings every year, so I just stick with those. I like them, so that's good enough for me.
"Layla! It's time to go!" I hear Kaya shout from somewhere in the house.
I sigh. "Coming!" I shout.
I walk out of my room, closing the door, and walking out yet another door, but this one's the exit. I shut and lock the door behind me and follow Kaya and my mother to the town Square for the annual Reaping.
As I walk, I breathe in the fresh air, the sea salt spray of the ocean. It always calms and soothes me whenever I'm down. I love swimming in the water, letting the water run through me like silk. There isn't another place I'd rather be than the ocean.
Once we reach the Square, my mother kisses us goodbye and she parts into the section for over-aged citizens. The adults that are nineteen or older.
"Next." A Peacekeeper says from a large white table. Kaya steps foward, me after her. The Peacekeeper pricks her finger and takes some of her blood.
"Next." The same Peacekeeper says. I get the same treatment as Kaya. The feeling used to freak me out when they pricked my finger. But now that I'm older, I'm used to the feeling.
"Next." I walk to the roped in section where the teenagers are supposed to stand. I pass by Kaya in the 14 year old section. I give her a small nod and keep going.
I reach the front where the 18 year olds are. Now I have to wait for the Reaping to begin.
This year is the Hunger Games after the 75th Hunger Games, also known as the 76th Hunger Games. Katniss failed at her attempt in starting a rebellion, so we still have the annual Hunger Games. I sigh. I knew it wouldn't last. I don't know why the Districts rebelled. Again. And again they failed. May the odds be ever in my favor.
After a few minutes or so, the mayor steps up to the stage. He talks about the Dark Days, The Treaty of Treason, and the Mockingjay Affair. The Mockingjay Affair is a new one. It's basically about Katniss Everdeen leading a rebellion as the Mockingjay, but then failing. Simple as that. Then the mayor reads the list of victors that we've had. We have a lot of victors over the past years, exactly 42.
Then the mayor introduces the mentors for the 76th Hunger Games. I glance at the chairs and see Finnick Odair and Annie Cresta, holding hands. They don't really look happy, but they don't really look sad either. They're not really showing any emotion.
The mayor sits back down after that, and Eve Gold, District 4's new escort, walks up to the microphone.
"Welcome, citizens of District 4, to the 76th Annual Hunger Games!" Eve begins. There's applause from the audience, but not crazy enough for Eve's taste, apparantly. She looks a little disappointed, but moves on.
"Now, it's time to pick one male and one female tribute to represent District 4 in the annual Hunger Games!" She says in her perky voice. The Reapings always start like this. Nothing exciting really.
"Ladies first!" Eve exclaims. She walks over to the girls' bowl and waves her hand gingerly around the bowl.
Finally, she picks a thin slip of paper. She walks back to the mic and announces, "Layla Waters! Come on up!"
For a second, I stand there, frozen in place. But as quickly as I did, I refocused my attention to the stage. I confidently walk up to the stage.
Surprisingly, nobody volunteers. Oh well.
I see myself on the large jumbo screen, staring straight into the crowd.
I don't feel sad.
I don't feel happy.
I don't feel anything. For once.

So, how did you like it? Did you like that Finnick was in it? Comment and rate please! :)
