Chapter 1

You're Always There

I was waiting outside the school for my boyfriend, Matt, when my phone started buzzing in my pocket. I slid it out as I read, Zaynie Is Calling. I giggled at the name he put in for himself and tapped the 'accept call' button.
"Hey, Zayn," I greeted. "What'Cha need?"
"Hey, babe. I was wondering if you wanted to do something tonight,"
"Sorry Zayn, Matt and I are doing something tonight,"
"Oh," he said. "How long have you two been dating?"
"Couple days," I replied.
"Well," he started. "If he hurts you.."
I giggled. "You're the best Zayn. Don't worry, he won't do anything. How about we get some pizza tomorrow night?"
"Sounds like a plan, babe," he said. "Well I'll talk to you later, love. Have fun with Matt tonight. Zayn, out!" He said before he hung up.

I giggled, Zayn has always been my best friend. We've been there for each other when no one else was and that's what made our relationship so special. But as we got to know each other better, I started to develop a massive crush on him. I mean, I've always found him attractive but after finally accepting I like my best friend, I found him unbelievably handsome.

Except, I was with Matt now. Matt is a really great guy it's just, we've only been dating for a few days so I don't know if I like him or not. Of course, I tried pushing away my feelings for Zayn away, and it's worked for the most part, but they'll always be there.

"Kat!" I cocked my head and saw Matt racing towards me.
"Hey, Matt," I said meeting him halfway.
He pulled me into a tight hug resting his hands on my back. I buried my face in his chest and wrapped my arms around his neck when his hands slid down a bit towards my bum. I pulled away and took a step back.
"Matt.."
"I'm sorry, babe," he didn't sound the slightest bit sorry. "Why don't we head out?"
I hesitated but nodded. It was an honest mistake, right? We strolled over towards his car and hopped in. He started the engine as we sped off towards the mall.
* * *
As we walked through the mall, we approached Victoria's Secret.
"Kat," Matt said easing his eye brows.
What the heck is wrong with him? "No, Matt,"
"Oh, come on, Kat!" he said pulling me into an empty storage room. "Why are you so uptight?"
"Matt!" I said. "We've only been dating a couple days! What do you expect?"
He rolled his eyes. "This is not what I signed up for,"
My eyes widened. "What do you mean, this is not what you signed up for?"
He raised an eye brow at me. "You honestly think I asked you out because I like you?"
I stood there in shock. How could he tell me something like this? I could feel my throat tighten as I tried to ask, "Then why did you ask me out?"
He rolled his eyes again. Who the heck do you think you are, Matt? "I knew it was a big mistake asking out a girl a year younger than I,"
I sucked in a sharp breath. Was he seriously saying this to my face? "You know what, Matt? Go find some girl that will let you do anything to her! I'm sorry I have too much self respect for myself to let you touch me! I'm done with us, Matt! You're just a jerk," I said before breaking down into tears. "We're over,"

I dashed out of the room and raced to the exit. I pressed open the door and collapsed onto a nearby bench. I buried my face in my hands and just let the tears fall. Zayn knew he was a total player but I was just blindsided. I quickly dialed Zayn's number and pressed the phone against my ear.
"Zayn?" I choked out.
"Babe? Are you alright?" he asked concerned.
"No," I said with a quivering lip. "He never liked me,"
"I'll be right there, babe," he said. "He's dead,"
"No, Zayn. Really it's fine. I just want to go home,"
"Alright, love," He said. "Can I at least buy you some Chinese food?"
I laughed. "Sure. Thank you, Zayn,"
"Anything for you," he said. "I'll see you soon. Bye!"
"Bye," I said before clicking the end call button.

In about twenty minutes, Zayn arrived at the exit to the mall. He pulled me into a tight hug and whispered, "He didn't deserve you, love,"
I buried my face in his chest and shook my head. He lifted my chin with his hand and looked me deep in the eye.
"Don't you listen to that, bloke. You're a perfect beautiful girl, Kat. That Matt fool, didn't know what he had until it was gone,"
I blushed brightly. "You really mean that, Zayn?"
He gently held my face in his hands as he pressed his lips against my forehead. "Of course I do, babe. And don't you ever doubt that,"
I blushed and smiled up at him. "We still on for Chinese food?"
"Yeah!" he said picking me up bridal style.
"Zayn!" I giggled.
He slid me into the passenger seat, strolled to the other side, and hopped in.
"Thanks for helping me out tonight," I said.
"Anything for you, babe. Now promise me one thing,"
"What?" I asked smiling.
"You won't ever cry over another guy like that again. He didn't deserve you,"
"I promise," I said giggling.
"Alright, now let's get some Chinese food!"
"Whoop! Whoop!" I screamed as we drove off.

After that night, I have never felt closer to Zayn than now. It's been about four months since that night and I couldn't be happier. Zayn helped me through so much in the last few months and I've been thinking of a way to make it up to him. Finally, late last night, Zayn told me he loves nothing more than a home cooked meal. Of course, I already knew that but Zayn has actually opened up more to me now, than he has ever.

I glanced at the clock, four in the afternoon. I smiled big and quickly dialed Zayn's number and pressed the phone against my ear.

It rang twice before he answered. "Hey, love! What'Cha need?"
"Hey, Zayn! Do you want to come over tonight? Say around, six?" I asked.
"I'd love to," he said. "Thank you,"
"Of course!" I said. "I'll see you soon! Bye!"
"Bye,"

I hung up the phone and dashed to the kitchen. I pulled the ingredients out of the fridge and set them down on the counter. I plucked a cookbook from the top shelf of the cabinet and opened it up to the chicken section.

* * *
At about six, I heard a knock at the door. I dashed to the door and straightened out my sweater and jeans. I took a deep breath, twisted the door knob, and opened the door.
"Hey, love!" he said giving me a tight hug. "Something smells good.."
I giggled and grasped his hand. "I have a surprise for you,"
"Please, let it be food," he said under his breath. I giggled as I led him into the kitchen. His eyes widened as he looked at the meal I had prepared for us.

We quickly dug into our food as we talked a bit. Once we were finished with our food, he brought up a subject I really didn't enjoy talking about.

"I saw Matt today," he said handing me his plate as him and I were doing the dishes. "He said he really misses you,"
He and I chuckled. "I hope I never see that bloke again,"
"Love, can I talk to you about something?" he asked me.
I turned to him, astonished he would even ask such a thing. "Of course!"
I jumped up onto the counter and sat in front of Zayn.
"Listen, love.." he said with a sigh.
"What is it, Zayn? Is something wrong?" I asked worried.
He shook his head. "I just can't," he sighed again. "I don't know how I say it,"
"What are you trying to say?" I asked with a laugh.

He stared at me with his beautiful deep brown eyes before gently pressing his lips against mine. He wrapped his arms around my waist. He pulled back and looked at me with pleading eyes.

"love, I know this is a lot to ask you but, I've liked- no, loved you for so long. And I promise I would never hurt you. Especially, the way that bloke did,"

I jumped into his arms and kissed him passionately. I wrapped my arms around his neck as he carried me to the couch. I laid down on top of him, running my fingers through his hair. He rested his hands on my hips, I gently lifted his hands and out them over my back pockets.
"Are you sure, love?" He asked looking me in the eye.
"Yeah," I said. "I do,"
