My Rant About "Shake It Up!" (for StayStrongx's contest)

Chapter 1

Enjoy :)

I'll warn you guys ahead of time that I don't watch the show that much (only when I babysit peoples' kids) so I don't know a whole lot about it. However, if you come up with any other points, feel free to leave them in the comments :)

I'll admit, the first Disney sitcom I ever watched was That's So Raven and I loved it! Once it was over, I was pretty bummed, until I heard about the next sitcom, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. I thought "This looks pretty good. I'll give it a watch". Needless to say, it wasn't as spectacular as I thought it would be, but I got a few giggles out of it. Same could be said for Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place. Keep in mind, I was around the age range of 9-12.
By the time Suite Life was over and moving on with its 2nd season and Hannah Montana and Wizards were about halfway through, I was sort of getting out of the whole "Disney TV show" phase (except for Phineas & Ferb. That show I still watch :D) Looked like I left at a good time because the sitcoms that came afterwards became dumber, stupider and just plain bland. So, when I saw commercials for Shake It Up!, I said to myself "Y'know what? This looks sort of different. Maybe it's good". I never got around to watching an episode until one night I was babysitting someone's kids. The daughter was watching TV and Shake It Up! came on. So, I stuck around and watched an episode of it.
Where the hell do I begin?

1) The acting is horrible. Nowhere near "the worst", but it certainly is in the Top 10. That kid who plays Rocky is probably one of the worst in the show. The one who plays CeCe is okay, but nothing spectacular. And I'm not even going to begin with those two kids who's characters are from a foreign country. I don't know whether to feel like it's stereotyping the country they're trying to be from or want to shoot myself everytime they open their mouths. The little kids on the show are no better. As for the adults... ugh!

2) It's the same recycled characters used in EVERY Disney sitcom. You got the mischievious sibling(s), the two best friend where one is a boy and one is a girl, the brainless and air-headed bullies and the naive and practically blind parents. The only thing I haven't seen is the "hot" guy/girl that the main character acts like an idiot in front of whenever he/she is around him/her (come on, when was the last time you ever acted like that in front of a crush?). Oops, hope I didn't jinx that. Oh well, that character will pop up eventually.
Same could be said for the plot lines, the cliches AND the puns and one-liners. It's the same thing. Every. Single. Time.

3) You know what the first episode opened up with? CeCe and Rocky dancing in the streets for money. Was it to buy food or any type of supplies for their family? No. For a cellphone. A freakin' cellphone!! But that's not what I wanted to talk about for #3. Just thought I'd bring it up :P
The whole point of the show is that CeCe and Rocky and all the other dancers on the show want to become world-famous dancers. Well, gee, how original is THAT? The main character(s) want to become famous celebrities. Geez, can't you people at Disney think of anything original for a concept of a TV show? We've seen this formula and plot a hundred times already! Why can't you have them want to become a doctor or an artist or something? Okay, I guess you could make the arguement that having the characters want to become anything other than a celebrity would not attract as big of an audience, but if the whole "I want to be famous" concept is used in a show like this, you're bound to screw up!
At least in a show like Good Luck, Charlie, the main character doesn't want to be a celebrity. You want to know why that show became a hit? Because it wasn't as stupid as Shake It Up! is. Again, I don't watch Good Luck, Charlie that much, but from what I've seen, it was pretty good.

4) The morals. Yeah, yeah, I know you've heard this rant many times before, but I'm sorry I have to say it. These characters could act like such BRATS and then they never learn their lesson in the end and end up getting what they wanted. I think there was an episode where Rocky and CeCe were entering this kid into a pagent or something and they flipped out just because she got 2nd place. 2nd place in a pagent? I would dance around with joy if I won that high! Sure, they apologized at the end, but you can tell they didn't really learn their lesson. Why? Because they were never punsihed or got discipline of any kind for it.
Give Hannah Montana and Wizards some credit, when those characters did something bad, they actually did learn their lesson and were still punished. While most kids would think that's cruel of the parents to ground their kids even after they apologized, well guess what, kids: THAT'S REALITY! It's not bad parenting to be tough on your kids once in awhile if they did something that's actually worth the punishment. It's called learning the lesson! Something the parents and the characters in Shake It Up! have NEVER done

In conclusion, Shake It Up! is a prime example of how Disney is running out of ideas and is becoming more and more mindless. And also another reason why I gave up with it. The only saving grace that keeps me watching Disney is Phineas & Ferb. If you want a good show, go watch that!
If any of you like Shake It Up!, that's fine! But just don't expect me or a whole lot of people to join in on the fan base. Thank you and good day! :) Or night. Or whatever time of day it is.
