I woke up to people running around and screaming. I bolted out of bed and tripped over my feet. I grabbed my sunglasses, putting them on. I had slept in my clothes, fortunately. I opened my door and a woman ran past me, yelling and waving her arms in the air. I followed her down the hallways, wondering what was going on. I emerged into the Grand Hall, where many people were gathered. "Move it! Secure all windows and doors, and do not let anybody in or out!" I heard someone scream. I turned around and Sapphire was screaming out orders and waving her arms in the air. Her eyes burned with excitement, but not the good kind. I ran up to her.
"Sapphire, what's going on?" I asked, my voice rising in panic. Sapphire ignored me and turned to one of her guards.
"Take Jake to the dungeon and protect him at all costs." She said with a wave of her arm.
"What?!" I screamed as the guard picked me up, my hands behind my back. He turned toward Sapphire.
"My Queen, you had best be off to the dungeon too. We do not want you getting hurt out here." He said, his voice gravelly and strong. Sapphire looked at the chaos before her, then shook her head.
"I cannot leave my people like this." She said, disappearing in the crowd.
"My Queen!" The guard said, following after her and totally forgetting me. I followed after them, weaving my way through the crowd. I saw Sapphire in a group of people, hugging a little girl who was crying. I stepped closer and heard them.
"I don't wanna die Sapphire." The little girl sobbed.
"Shh little one..." Sapphire's reassuring voice said. "You're not going to die, not today." She said, standing up and patting the girl's head. I was about to go and talk to Sapphire when I heard my name.
"Jake!" I whirled around and was almost knocked to the ground from Kaylee jumping into me. Her arms wrapped around me and I could smell her sweet scent on her hair, like flowers. She let go of me and smiled. "We've been looking everywhere for you! Where have you been?" She asked. I nodded in Sapphire's direction.
"I was going to ask what was going on..."
"Oh." Kaylee said, frowning. Sam smiled at me and I smiled back. Kaylee stuck her tongue out at me and frowned again. "God Jake, you look like you just woke up." She said, trying to flatten down my messy black hair. I shrugged and looked at Sapphire. She was facing away from me and I took a step forward. Sapphire broke into a run to get to the huge doors. They weren't locked. As she reached for the huge bolt to lock them, they flew open revealing...

I didn't think he would actually come. I thought he would get his Demons to do the dirty work for him. His eyes bore into mine and his huge black wings were extended to their full height. I felt so small. "You came." I managed in a whisper. With one hand, he grabbed my waist, with the other my arm. Everybody in the room gasped.
"You didn't think I would forget about you, did you?" He asked, his voice as seductive as ever. I scowled at him.
"Did you come alone? I didn't think you could be that much of an idiot." I said. He smiled at me, his fangs shining.
"I didn't want to scare you but..." he said, looking around. "I think just the sight of me sends shivers down your spine." He said, smirking. The audience watched with held breath, afraid that Demetri would hurt me. I didn't doubt it at all. But he let go of me, walking around the perimeter of the room, glaring at my people, making them shiver, making some of them cry even. The little girl walked forward and kicked his leg. He laughed.
"Don't hurt anybody or I'll keep kicking you!" She said bravely, kicking him in the knee. He probably didn't even feel it. He smiled at her and picked her up. She frowned and hit his arm, putting all her strength into it. I almost smiled at how cute she was. I heard a gasp from the crowd and Demetri and I both turned at the sound. There was a woman in the back, almost in tears. Demetri walked over to her.
"Is she yours?" He asked politely, pointing at the squirming girl in his arms. The woman nodded.
"P...please don't hurt her. She is only but a child. She has so much life left to live." She said, tears escaping her. I felt bad for her, so I walked over and kicked Demetri, hard in the leg. He looked at me with kind eyes.
"May I?" I said sarcastically to him, looking at the little girl, who was still trying to punch Demetri. He smiled sweetly and handed her to me. The girl screamed.
"No! I wanna punch him right in the face! Let me Sapphire. let me!" She said, swinging her arms. I laughed and Demetri smiled.
"Here you go. Don't let her get away." I said, handing the girl to her mother. The woman cried and smiled at me.
"Bless you my queen." She said to me, cradling the little girl in her arms. I turned to Demetri.
"Now leave." I said, glaring at him. A laugh escaped his lips.
"And if I don't?" He said in a mocking tone.
"If you don't leave, you'll have to answer to me." Someone said. Gasps echoed in the room and Demetri frowned. Jake walked out of the crowd, thankfully wearing his sunglasses. Demetri burst out laughing and I put my head in my hands.
"Jake, just what do you think you're doing?" I asked, wishing (not for the first time) that Jake had never come here. Jake scowled at Demetri.
"You heard the lady. Leave." Demetri instantly frowned.
"Sapphire is the queen, and you will call her as such." He growled, leaning over Jake. There was no fear on Jake, which made me worry.
"I can call her whatever I please." He said. No he most certainly could not. I thought to myself, but Demetri was quicker. In one swift movement, he punched Jake, who soared across the room. As the King of Demons walked over to him, Jake whipped off his sunglasses, staring hard at Demetri.
"Look away!" I told everyone in the room. They all obeyed. I ran over to them. Demetri was... fine. We both stared at Jake with blank expressions. Without any hesitation, Demetri smiled.
"So the rumors are true. You have golden eyes. But where is this power that you posses? Oh, right. It doesn't work on me." He said, crossing his arms across his chest. Jake tightened his glare, then when nothing worked, focused on me. I should have felt something, but all I felt was pity for the boy who tried so hard for nothing. Demetri burst out laughing and kicked Jake, hard, in the head. I gasped as Demetri picked him up.
"What are you doing?" I asked, afraid for the worst. He smiled.
"I'm going to take back a souvenir." He said, grinning wickedly. He ran off and opened his wings.
"No!" I shouted, running to catch him. Everyone gasped as he rose into the air, wings strong. He looked down at me.
"Go ahead Sapphire! Come and get me!" He knew I couldn't. If I did, everyone would know... they would know... He laughed and flew away, carrying my last hope of salvation with him.
