Chapter 1

Once Upon a Time

Percival made his way through the store watching his feet. It had happened again. Another girl had regected him. He was too big, too nice, too quiet... the list went on and on. The worst part was the way his close friends watched him as each girl did the same thing. It was like they thought he was a bomb, one about to go off at any second.

Absorbed in his thoughts as he was, he barely noticed when someone walked into him.

"Ohmygosh," she said in one breath. "I'm so sorry..."

He glanced up and felt the breath leave his lungs. She was almost as tall as he was, with grey eyes and hair that couldn't seem to make up it's mind as to a single color. She flashed a smile as she fiddled with her purse strap.

"A-are you alright?" he asked her.

"Fine. I'm really sorry about running into you."

He smiled a little. "It's alright. Doesn't happen a lot."

"Well... I was a little distracted."

They stood in an awkward silence before Percy spoke. "I'm Percy. Percival, but Percy."

"Lizzy."

"And that's short for Elizabeth?"

"No, Eliza."

"Ah."

"Lizzy! Dead God, girl!" someone called.

"Honestly, do you have to say that all the time, Ty?" she asked as a guy with dark hair rushed over and threw an arm over her shoulders. "Percy, this glorious idiot is Ty."

"Nice to meet you."

"So... Lizzy, we need to get going. Nice meeting you, Percy."

He watch Lizzy and Ty walk off. Just before they turned a corner, she turned and waved. Maybe it isn't a lost cause...

Lizzy wanted to strangle Ty. He had the worst timing, ever. She might have had a decent conversation with Percy had he not shown up. He didn't even realize it, either.

"So, who was the blond bear?"

"I introduced you to him."

"I know, but that doesn't answer my question."

"He's just someone I ran into."

"Again? That's hazardous to your health."

She rolled her eyes as her best friend ran to kiss his girlfriend. He was right, of course. Her last boyfriend hadn't exactly been good for her. She didn't want to think aboutt him, though. She had moved on.

"Liz!" Sherry called.

"Sherry!"

"The two friends hugged. "So... how've you been?"

"Better..."

"You've not heard from him?"

Lizzy shook her head. "Nah. Not a big loss, though. He's a jerk."

"I still can't believe he cheated on you as well as..." Sherry trailed off. "I'm sorry, girly. I didn't mean to-- Gods, I'm such an idiot."

"It's alright. I'm over him. No point in crying over the past."

"I'm glad you're alright."

"Yeah, me, too."

Sherry ran off to talk to other people. Lizzy sat down and grabbed one of Ty's guitars of their stand. As the voices around her faded into the background, she started strumming.

You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh, I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness, inside you
Can make you feel so small

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
Don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow

So sad eyes
Discouraged now
Realize

When this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there

And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afriad to let them show
Your true colors
True colors, true colors

Cos there's a shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors, true colors
True colors are beautiful
Beautiful, like a rainbow
