Darkest Night (A Firelight Fanfic)
If you guys have read the book Firelight, the creatures in my story are the same, but I'm using made up characters and an entirely different story line. So it's only a Firelight fanfic in the way that I'm using the same type of dragon creatures. And if you haven't read the book then you need to go read it now!
P.S. You don't have to have read the book to understand the story.
It's A Date
Drake.... His name burns into my mind. It's unique and uncommon.
"Drake." I mutter. "That's such an epic name!" I say louder. He looks amused and seems to be thinking hard about something.
"Would you like to go out with me tonight? I'd love to get to know you better." My eyes widen and I'm taken aback by his sudden question.
"Wh-What? You're kidding right?" I look at him skeptically and he laughs at my changing expressions.
"No, I'm not kidding." He tells me. His warm eyes gaze into mine and he has an amused expression on his face.
I look away. My feelings for this man are conflicting. Part of me really wants to go out with this guy and it would be a nice change of pace from my usual friends. The other part of me knows I shouldn't. I have a boyfriend, Brendan. We've been dating for four months now and it wouldn't feel right going out with this random guy I just met; even if he is very, very handsome...plus I wouldn't want something to start with this Drake and have it mess with my feelings for Brendan.
"I-I'm sorry, I have a boyfriend."
He throws his head back and laughs. I just stare, confused as my eyes tighten. "It won't be that kind of date." He tells me, and then winks.
"Oh." I feel stupid now.. I can't help but smile though at the thought of us going out together. I look up and see him smiling. My heart skips a beat.
"So, what's your answer?" He asks. I open my mouth to speak but am interrupted by my cell phone ringing. I'd ignore it, but I'm afraid it could be my dad. So groaning, I reluctantly fish my phone out of my pocket and check the screen. It's my dad.
"Sorry, I have to answer this.." I tell Drake. I jog out of the auditorium and through the front doors. I go around the building to a place where no one can hear me. No one would ever want to drop in on conversations I have with my dad. All the while my phone had still been ringing. I quickly press the talk button and hold it up to my ear. "Hel-"
"Where the helI are you!?" My dad yells, not bothering to even say hello. Not like he ever does anyway. My throat tightens at the sound of his voice.
"At church." I try to make my voice even but it's hard to mask the hatred I have for him.
"You better stop the attitude, or else!" His voice rises; he must have heard the change in my voice.
I managed to choke out an "Okay."
"Why aren't you home??" I clench my free hand by my side.
"I got sidetracked."
"Get your lazy *** over here!!" He hangs up on me before I can respond. My hand tightens around the phone and I shove it into my pocket. My throat tightens and my eyes water as I think about what will happen when I get home, but I know I won't cry. I don't cry anymore.
With my hands clenched by my side, I slowly walk around the corner of the building to the front doors. As I turn the corner I see Drake leaning against the brick wall. Surprised, I stop short and stare, unsure of what to say. There's no way he could have heard my dad on the phone but the warm glow has gone from his eyes and his face looks tight as if he is angry or annoyed.
He turns his head and looks at me. "Is everything okay?"
I force a smile. "Yep, everything I fine." I don't want him worrying about me so I quickly change the subject. "I'll go out tonight with you." I realize that I want to see this man again, despite the consequences. He smiles, looking a little surprised at my answer. "Want to see a movie?"
"Sure." He replies. We switch phones and exchange phone numbers. I look up and it seems like some warmth has returned to his eyes.
"I have to go now, so I'll see you tonight." My throat tightens. I don't want to leave, but I have to. I turn and walk away towards my car in the parking lot.
"So it's a date then. I'll see you tonight, Alex." I feel a sudden warmth in my chest after he says that. I wave my hand as I sign I heard him and continue on.
