Chapter 1

Alone With Tears Of Pain

i sat alone in my appartment. i was crying. crying for no reason. i was alone as always. alone and unwanted. the power was out because i couldnt pay the bill. i'm 17. i work part time and go to school. my dad died and my mom left me. she just walked away about 2 months ago. i've been paying rent, electricity, and the water bills plus more for that long. but this month i had to pick either water or electricity. i chose water. so now i have a candle that i carry with me. right now it was not lit. i decided to work from 4 - midnight this week so i could pay the bill. so i hopped up, wiped away my tears, and went to walk to work. i was a waitress/barista at a local bar. dont worry they know i'm underage but the owner was a friend of my moms and she doesnt know my mom left. but she lets me work their anyways. i clocked in and told her i was gonna work all week until late. working later means more money. i was young and beautiful so every man there hit on my. however they all thought i was about 5 years older than i am. i have blond hair and pale blue eyes. my hair was in a ponytail and my make up was light. i was exhausted. i had worked almost all day yesterday and again today. id gone home for a lunch break, but since i was crying i had forgotten to eat anything. oops. oh well. id gone a day or two without food before so this wasnt too bad. i had almost completely tuned out the feeling of hunger. i worked from 1 to 9 and when i was about to leave Jesabell (my mothers friend and my boss) called me into her office. "Sydney. i know your mothers gone. she called me today and told me that you are going to live with your Aunt Brooklyn in California. so go home pack your things. ill be at your house in the morning at 5 sharp." she said. i nodded and left. Aunt Brooklyn? i havent seen aunt lyn in about 10 years. why was i going to live with her? i was totally fine. i went home packed the little that i had and went to sleep. i slept until 4 so i could get up and shower (in the dark) and get dresses. i was ready with my one suitcase by the time Jesabell was here. she looked at me and i could see pity in her eyes. she drove me to the airport and watched as i boarded the plane. i waved and left without turning back. i was sad. i didnt want to leave home, or work as crazy as it sounds. i just wanted it to be back to the way it was. it took about 6 hours to get to California. so i arrived in the airport at noon. i saw my aunt. my tall, beautiful aunt who is the best caterer in the world! she caters all over the US. it is so cool. she was really nice and she was nothing like my mom. Aunt Brooklyn was exactly like me. thin, tall, blonde, and blue eyed. my mother however was short, curvy, brunette, with green eyes. after grabbing my suitcase we got in the car. i realized i would have absolutely nothing to wear. i had brought 1 pair of shorts and 2 pairs of jeans. i also brought 4 shirts and some other essentials of course.
we drove up to a gorgeous white mansion. like a mansion you would see in the movies. we got ou of the car and i carried my suitcase up to the house. Aunt lyn took me up to my room and let me unpack. my room was the square root of awesome! i loved it!

it was perfect. i barely had enough stuff to make a dent in all the closet space i had. i didnt realize Aunt lyn was right behind me until she spoke. "is that all you brought hun?" she asked. she always called me hun or hunbun or honey. i liked it. mom never did that. "um, yea. this is all i have. i had to start selling some of my clothes to pay bills." i said. she looked angry for a moment but it went away. "i can't believe your mother did this to you. you are too young to have to worry about paying your own bills and working constantly. especially at a place where you aren't technically supposed to be working. come one, we re going shopping." she said. and with that we left. i was wearing my only pair of shorts and my only shirt that didnt have a hole in it. i wore my old and falling apart flip flops. we drove in her BMW comvertible. red of course. and drove to the mall. she spent over $3,000 on clothes alone! then we went to get make up, a curling iron, a straightning iron, some little things for my room. and then we got the even bigger stuff. like a laptop, and a new cell phone (since the old one was about 4 years old and barely holding charge). Aunt Brooklyn was LOADED! like loaded loaded.she was number 15 out of the richest people in LA, since the first 14 were celebs they really shouldnt count. i got home and put it all away. there was STILL room in my closets but i have more clothes now than i have ever had before! it was awesome. oh did i meantion the shoes? ohmygosh the shoes were everywhere!! i quickly threw away the crap flip flops i was wearing before and traded them for a pair of designer sandals.i went for a walk on the beach in my new blue shorts and my white, green, blue, yellow tube top and my white sunglasses. how did i go for the about to be homeless girl to the girl who could have whatever she wanted with the snap of her fingers. it was so strange but i wouldnt change it for the world. i walked until Aunt Lyn called me for dinner. so i turned around and ran into someone. a very strong someone...........
