Chapter 1

The First Meeting

"Hello," a voice said to a young florist one summer evening at the florist's little stall. The voice was female and it was as smooth as silk. The florist looked up and he was star-struck. A woman was standing before him. Not just a woman, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. She had long, rich brown hair, the colour of dark chocolate, and breathtaking, warm, honey-coloured eyes and tanned skin that glowed in the moonlight. She was wearing a light, white sun-dress and wedged sandals.
"H-Hi," the man said back when he found his voice.
She smiled. Wow, he thought. She has an amazing smile. She seems to glow like a star. She looks like the happiest person in the world. She gazed at the flowers on his stall. "I adore flowers. You like roses?" she asked.
Most of the flowers on his stall were roses. He had them in various colours. "Yes. I think they are the most beautiful flowers in the world."
She smiled again. "I agree. May I have one?"
"Of course but may I make a suggestion?" The woman nodded, her eyes curious. The man picked up a lavender rose. He picked this rose not only because of its beauty but for its meaning: Enchantment, Love at first sight. "It's my favourite and it's perfect for you."
Her smile brightened. He guessed she knew of its meaning. She took the rose and smelled it. "Are you saying that I'm enchanting or that you're in love with me?"
"Maybe both."
She laughed softly. It sounded like the peeling of bells. "Would you like to take a walk with me?"
"Certainly!" He didn't even glance back at his stall when he walked away with her. She had the grace of a ballerina. He realized something as he walked down the street with her. He doesn't even know her name. "Mind if I know your name?"
"Aphrodite."
"Aptly named." Aphrodite seemed to like this comment. She smiled in a different way this time, like she had a secret. "My name's Alex."
